Style of Car Ramps

Hook ends: The ramps simply hook over the trailer rub rail, or any flat bar connection point or round bars up to 1-1/4" diameter, to secure the ramps to the trailer. They're our most popular style of auto ramps.

Flat plate: A very versatile connecting end, they have PVC rubber strip bonded to underside. Safety straps are included and are required when using ramps. The flat plate ends will NOT work on beavertail /dovetail trailers.

Hybrid hook/plate: A combination of the plate and hook, this end type allows for maximum versatility when connected onto different trailers/vehicles. The 3-3/4" long flat plate connecting end can be used on any flat surface while utilizing the included safety straps to secure ramps to vehicle. The underside of the flat plate end has rubber padding to provide superior grip and prevent scratches to your vehicle's paint.

Pin-on ends: They're the safest way to secure ramps to any trailer or vehicle, and they require welding an attaching bracket called a skid seat to the vehicle or trailer. Once the bracket is installed, the pin-on ramp end drops into the skid seat and a 3/4" steel rod slides through the ramp end to secure it safely to the vehicle.

Heavy of Car Ramps

Another factor to consider is the weight of the equipment that you are transporting. A majority ramps transport up to 1250 lbs, with some ranging up to a capacity of 1500 lbs. Heavier and larger cargo and equipment are best moved with a longer ramp. A longer ramp will have a lower degree of incline, which in turn requires less force and strain on the body to load and unload heavy items. If you are transporting smaller equipment and cargo with a hand truck, you can consider a shorter ramp, which is typically lighter and faster to deploy than the longer ramps. Transporting light objects at a greater incline runs a lower risk of injury when compared to transporting heavy items up a steep incline. Therefore, typically, the heavier the cargo and equipment, the longer ramp you will need.

Precautions for use of Car Ramps

Follow the steps below to use car ramps properly:

Place the ramps in an open space, then position the vehicle in front. Ensure the wheels are pointing straight and slide the ramps in front of the front wheels.
Double-check the alignment of the wheels and slowly drive up the ramp.
Stop the car once it's on top of the ramps.
Engage the parking brake, check the vehicle's position, then wedge the wheel chocks behind the opposite set of wheels.
