PET is a milky white or light yellow highly crystalline polymer with a smooth and shiny surface. Creep resistance, fatigue resistance, wear resistance, and dimensional stability are good, with low wear and high hardness. It has the greatest toughness among thermoplastic materials: good electrical insulation performance, less affected by temperature, but poor corona resistance. Non toxic, weather resistant, stable against chemicals, low water absorption, resistant to weak acids and organic solvents, but not resistant to hot water immersion or alkali.
PET resin has a high glass transition temperature, slow crystallization rate, long molding cycle, long molding cycle, high molding shrinkage rate, poor dimensional stability, brittle crystallization molding, and low heat resistance.
Through the improvement of nucleating agents, crystallization agents, and glass fiber reinforcement, PET not only possesses the properties of PBT, but also has the following characteristics.
1. The thermal deformation temperature and long-term use temperature are the highest among thermoplastic general engineering plastics.
2. Due to its high heat resistance, reinforced PET is immersed in a soldering bath at 250 ℃ for 10 seconds without deformation or discoloration, making it particularly suitable for preparing electronic and electrical parts for soldering.
3. The bending strength is 200MPa, the elastic modulus reaches 4000MPa, and the creep and fatigue resistance are also good. The surface hardness is high, and the mechanical properties are similar to those of thermosetting plastics.
4. Due to the fact that ethylene glycol used in the production of PET is almost half cheaper than butanediol used in the production of PBT, PET resin and reinforced PET are the lowest priced engineering plastics with high cost-effectiveness.
To improve the performance of PET, PET can form alloys with PC, elastomer, PBT, PS, ABS, and PA.
PET (reinforced PET) is mainly processed by injection molding, while other methods include secondary processing methods such as extrusion, blow molding, coating and welding, sealing, machining, and vacuum coating. Before forming, it must be thoroughly dried.
Polyethylene terephthalate is synthesized by exchanging dimethyl terephthalate with ethylene glycol or esterification of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol, followed by condensation reaction. It belongs to crystalline saturated polyester, with an average molecular weight of 2-3 × 104, the ratio of weight to number average molecular weight is 1.5-1.8. The glass transition temperature is 80 ℃, Martin is heat-resistant at 80 ℃, the thermal deformation temperature is 98 ℃ (1.82MPa), and the decomposition temperature is 353 ℃. It has excellent mechanical properties, high rigidity, high hardness, low water absorption, and good dimensional stability. Good toughness, impact resistance, friction resistance, and creep resistance. Good chemical resistance, soluble in cresol, concentrated sulfuric acid, nitrobenzene, trichloroacetic acid, chlorophenol, insoluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, and alkanes. The operating temperature is -100~120 ℃, and the bending strength is 148-310MPa.
